More than anything I love a good fiction read. I like to be able to open the pages and be somewhere else. It's a nice escape from reality for me and sometimes that's just what I need. I'm pretty selective on the books I read. I want to make sure I'm going to enjoy what I'm reading and I like to make sure the content and the message the books I read makes me a better person.
Confession: I started reading this because of the mentions of it in The Twilight Series. Yes, I read The Twilight Series and yes I enjoyed them. I am not a Twilight extremest, but I thought they were clever. There's something refreshing about a boy that treats a girl right. Some might call that "old fashioned" but let me tell you the majority of girls love that series because of Edward and his, "old fashion" ways. Maybe guys should read those books just to learn how to treat a girl because guys like him are few and far between in the world today. I have to say the first book in the series helped me find an escape during the first couple months of mommy-hood back in 2008 and also helped me become aware of how much I missed reading for pleasure. For that, I am grateful! As for Wuthering Heights, this classic was like torture for me in high school, but as an adult I absolutely loved it. While it left me desiring a happily ever after it gave me the closure I needed to see past the sadness of the story. It's pretty much a sick and twisted love story, but sends a powerful message about the power of pride and why one should choose a marriage founded on love and not status. If you get easily confused or distracted this could be a frustrating read for you. I did a lot of re-reading and often looked back to get the characters straight. There's also some slang that can be hard to understand. I will definitely read this book again and again. (Review written in 2008)
While the cover of the book makes it look like a cheese ball romance novel, it's anything but! Redeeming Love parallels one of the greatest love stories ever told. It was a quick read for me and kept my interest throughout. It's the kind of book that you don't want to put down, yet leaves you satisfied after turning the last page. I highly recommend this book and will probably read it again.
I have to admit when I started reading The Memory Keepers Daughter I didn't know what I was getting myself into. At the time, I wasn't reading anything and someone handed this one to me, so I gave it a chance. I wouldn't exactly say it was my favorite read although I did keep picking it up. It's one of those "yell at the characters in your head" books. The story line is based on a huge lie and since I believe in complete honestly (even if the truth hurts), I had a hard time with this one. I'm also a fan of happy endings and while I know in the real world happily ever after isn't always the case, I usually choose books that give me what I'm looking for.
